Midlands Region Winner for Technical Presentation Skills

I participated in a presentation competition, where the premise was to explain a technical matter to a non-technical audience. My presentation was based upon my final year university project, where I investigated seemingly random machining problems experienced with steel rotor forgings (akin to 100 ton rolling pins) at GEC Large Generators in Stafford.

I’d undertaken my sandwich work placement at GEC during university degree study; I was subsequently employed by them as a graduate trainee.

GEC Newsletter Article

This article was in a newsletter at the company (GEC) where I worked between 1991 and 1997, the time frame of the article was 1993.

National Finalist in London

I travelled from Stoke-on-Trent to London with my mother, who sat in the audience while I presented at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers‘ head office at 1 Birdcage Walk, in Westminster, London. My mother bought me a new jacket from Marks & Spencers for me to wear on the occasion, she returned it for a refund the following day 😀
